CAPTIVA EROSION PREVENTION DISTRICT

The Captiva Erosion Prevention District (CEPD) is a governmental body created by special act of the Florida Legislature. Its mandate is to handle erosion-related problems on Captiva Island. Although the CEPD existed on Captiva as far back as the 1950s, it is now constituted as an official beach and shore preservation district under Section 161.32 of the Florida Statutes. The CEPD’s jurisdiction includes all lands within the tidal waters of Captiva Island.

Captiva Island is part of unincorporated Lee County which is located on the lower western peninsula coast of Florida. Captiva Island is a barrier island separated from the main land by Pine Island Sound. It is accessible from Fort Myers by causeway through Sanibel Island and across Blind Pass Bridge.
